Tag! You’re It.....Fun Layouts with My January Counterfeit Kit

I’m excited to share what I've been up to with my January Counterfeit Kit so far this month. I've created two fun layouts that came together quickly, thanks to the daily sketches from Paper Issues (Sketches #5 and #6). I’m currently obsessed with using tags on layouts, so I was thrilled to see that one of the sketches already included tags. For the other, I decided to add a tag or two anyway. Tags are such a versatile embellishment—they can frame photos, hold titles, add journaling, or create layers for added depth. I just love how they elevate the design.

Its So Fluffy (Sketch #5)

First up is It’s So Fluffy – a layout documenting an adorable photo of Paige and a fluffy chicken she befriended at the Nowra Zoo, using the Paper Issues Sketch #6. I used a lot of the patterned papers from my kit, mixing them with die-cut flowers and bows in soft pastel colours. I didn't have the tags in the colours I wanted for this layout so I cut out two from some of the patterned paper scraps, and I love how they turned out.

Full of Colour (Sketch #6)

Next, I worked on Full of Colour – a bright, bold layout capturing when Paige had rainbow hair threads braided into her hair, using Paper Issues Sketch #5. The colour scheme of the layout matched her vibrant braids perfectly. I used tags as part of the photo mat, which helped to anchor the picture while adding layers and interest. I also had some fun with black ink, doodling around the photos, tags, and even the background paper. The little ink splatters and hearts tied everything together in the most playful way.

Both layouts came together so quickly thanks to the kit and the sketches and with my latest obsession with tags (seriously, they add such a fun dimension to any layout!) If you’re ever feeling stuck or uninspired, creating a small kit like this and having a plan (like those daily sketches!) can make all the difference.

What are you working on this month? Let me know in the comments!

January's Counterfeit Kit Challenge and Paper Issues sketch 2

If you're like me, you’ve probably found yourself scrolling through those gorgeous scrapbook kit club websites, admiring all the beautifully coordinated papers, embellishments, and themes. But deep down, you know you’ve got more supplies than you could ever use in a lifetime. And you’re definitely not alone—I have copious amounts of papers, embellishments, and stamps stashed away in my craft room, just waiting to be used.

That’s where the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog comes in. If you haven’t heard of it, this community is all about helping you make the most of what you already have. Each month, the team challenges you to “counterfeit” a kit from a well-known scrapbook kit club by creating your own kit from your own stash. No need to buy anything new! This is a great way to rediscover old favourites and get your scrapbooking mojo back.

For January, the inspiration kit is Hip Kit's September 2024 "Good Things Ahead". I’ve pulled out papers in shades of blue and touches of peachy/orange, inspired by the denim pockets and soft rainbow hues of the Hip Kit kit. I also included some pocket embellishment stickers to tie in with the kit's theme. It’s amazing how just selecting a few coordinating items helps me see the potential in my supplies and gets me excited to create. Here is my kit:

And to kickstart my January scrapbooking journey, I joined in with the Paper Issues Facebook group’s Day 2 Sketch challenge. I love how sketches can quickly jumpstart a layout when I'm feeling stuck. Sketches are a fantastic tool when you want to scrap quickly and efficiently. They give you a clear direction, so you don’t have to spend ages deciding on layout design. Paired with a counterfeit kit, I find it’s an efficient way to create beautiful pages without overthinking. You can follow the sketch closely or adapt it to suit your photos and style—either way, it helps take the guesswork out of creating.

Using the sketch, I created a layout featuring a sweet memory from a few years ago—my daughters, Bronte and Paige, having fun together at daycare. In the photo, Bronte is pulling Paige around in a toy wagon. It was such a simple, joyful moment, and I’m so happy to have it documented.

One of the things I love about this layout is the colour combination of peach and blue. These two colours might not be ones you often see paired together, but I think they work so well here. The peach tones add a warmth and softness to the page, while the blue brings a fresh, cool vibe. The combination creates a perfect balance between cute and fun, making it ideal for the playful moment captured in my photo—light-hearted, sweet, and joyful. The peach and blue work together to make the layout pop without overpowering the photo, and it really brings the page to life.

February Counterfeit Kit Reveal Blog Hop

Hello lovely people, welcome to the February reveal for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and Blog Hop. If you are here on my blog I am hoping that you found your way from Tina's Blog? In not don't panic, I will post the whole Blog Hop List at the bottom of my post.

It is Misty's first month hosting a kit here at CKC and what an awesome kit she has picked....the Denim & Blush Modern Memory Keeping Kit from Cocoa Daisy from February 2021. With it's focus on f journaling cards and embellishments it is sure to hit the mark with many paper crafters. Misty loved the kit for it’s combination of rich and airy colours, it’s everyday life usefulness and the slight nod to the Valentine’s holiday
. Here it is the main kit, isn't lovely.

Cocoa Daisy Denim & Blush Main Kit

I really like the subtle colours with the pop of dark blue / denim, not sure why but I think of my Grand Mother when I look at this kit. I think it has the right balance of colours and range of embellishments that will pull me out of this scrappers rut I am in.

Here is how my final kit looked like, once I had pulled out every pile of patterned paper to find what I was looking for. (I will have to clean my space prior to creating - it is all over the place).

When putting my kit together I started with the papers, I looked at what papers were in the Main Kit and the Extra Paper Kit of the Cocoa Daisy Kit. The subtle colours of the pinks, yellows with the pop of dark blue and that one sheet of the red jumped out at me and I saw hearts as a bit of a focus.

When looking at the pictures of the papers by thought process was to create a list, for this paper in the Add on Paper Kit I thought : blue floral, mainly blue, yellow geometric, small pink hearts, pink zigzags and funky geometric.

My list to find for the papers in the Main Kit was : subtle pink, journaling cards, more hearts, blue lines, bright red with pattern, yellow checks.

Keeping my list near me I ended up pulling these papers. The first row is the papers I found that replicate the Add on Papers from the Kit : Three dark blue florals that I just had to pop into the kit, I know! More than what is in the Cocoa Daisy kit, but how could I resist? I finished the dark blues with a final blue sheet with wavy lines across it. The geometric yellow, I ended up putting in two papers instead of the small pink hearts paper - the pink dot and medium hearts paper.  I found a chevron pink paper and substituted it for the pink zigzag and lastly added a subtle pink geometric paper instead of the funky bright one in the original kit.

For the second row (which the inspiration was take from the papers in the Main Cocoa Daisy Kit) I pulled a subtle pink tiny triangle patterned paper. Where the Cocoa Daisy Kit had the journaling card paper I decided to replace with wood grain paper (not just one but three of them), I finally found a paper with small hearts on it so it was popped in next. This lead onto the last three papers from the original kit, I had trouble finding papers similar in my stash so I stretched my original thought process a bit to find substitutes along a similar path....blue lines paper in the original kit - now the wavy blue zig zag paper, bright red with pattern is now replaced with bold funky pink and red hearts and pink written words on book lines and the yellow checks are now funky yellow arrows (I'm not 100% sure they complements my kit or not, but when I start scrapping I will see how I make them work).

The Embellishments. Pink and dark blue stickers, alphas, hearts, florals, die cuts and enamel dots was the list I was chanting in my head when I was rifling through my stash.

What I ended up pulling is: very similar to that list but I added a few wood grain items to my kit to tie it back in with the wood grain papers that I added. I also found a star sticker sheet which I thought would work with the kit colours, so it was thrown in at the last minute.

I am happy with the embellishments even with the washi tape that I found. The washi tape in the Cocoa Daisy kit were lovely. The heart one really drew my attention and imagine my happiness when I found a similar one in my supplies. I have a large amount of washi tape but never remember to use it on layouts, so hopefully adding it to my kit I will actually use some of it.

My washi tape - two dark colours; a floral and a script one, a wood grain and the heart one!!

Well that is it for my thought process on how I put my kit together this month, I hope that I have given you a few ideas on how to create one of your own?

May Counterfeit Kit Blog Hop Reveal

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog "Three Obsessions" you should have found your way here from the May Counterfeit Kit Blog Hop, hope you have enjoyed the journey so far. I will pop a Master List at the bottom of my post and you can continue to hop along with the rest of the Master Forgers.

The kit that was picked to counterfeit this month was the Eat Play Love Kit from Close to My Heart.

Here is an image of what it looks like.

Easy as Pie

So what inspired me from the kit this month? The stand out was the red - it just popped out from the rest and called my name, it is such a vibrant colour in comparison to the other colours in the kit, so it was my stating point. I then looked at the theme of the kit and saw that it was about cooking or household/kitchen items. With the colour red and the them set in my mind I started my forge through my stash and pulled the following items together to create my kit for May, I have even thought of a title for my kit this month.... Easy as Pie!!

I went straight for my red pile of papers and found some checks, strawberries and cherry patterns and decided that they would work both for the colour and the "kitchen/cooking" theme .... after all food is found in the kitchen!! I realised that I didn't really have many papers that would fit the kitchen/cooking theme so I stuck with the fruits and added pineapples, lemons, pears and apples to the collection. The rest of the papers I matched to the idea of flowers and some blue as it was the second colour that stood out from the original kit.

I had a bit more luck in finding some cut-apart sheets in the kitchen/cooking theme and added these to my kit. I also found an older 6x6 bracket paper in red and flowers so it was added too.

Next up embellishments, once again I had to dig deep in my supplies to find a few that related to the theme, but I did mange to find some. Flairs, patches and a gem icecream. When I looked at my kit now I was thinking it looks a bit "old fashioned" so going with that I added some little wooden pegs, the felt and paper doilys, some pearls and a few woodgrain sequins. I must admit I am loving how it has come together and can not wait to use it, hopefully my layouts come together "Easy as Pie."

November Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Hop

Greetings and Salutations everyone. I am back today with my November Counterfiet Kit for the Blog Hop reveal. If you found your way here from Tara's Blog then you are on the right path. If you just happened to stumble across my blog and want to follow the Blog Hop journey then there is a master list at the bottom of htis post.

The kit that was picked this month for our inspiration was the Autumn Hip Kit Club kit. It is a kit that makes you think of cosy days and gives you a homely feeling. There are leaves, flowers, Autumn colours, cute embellishments and lots more. I have chosen to use the main kit as my inspiration but there is a mini kit and add on too. So pop on over to the Hit Kit Club webpage to see what else they have.

Right on to my kit. I have given my kit a name this month and it is:

November Nights

I called it November Nights because of my additions of the dark blues, they kind of remind me of the sky just at twilight and long November nights of sitting around outside under the night sky just before the heat of the Australian Summer starts kicking in.
Here is my full kit.
For my kit I started with the patterned papers, I looked and the main photo of the Hip Kit Club kit and saw Autumn colours and patterns, I was a touch of blues and a hint of pink. I then concentrated on teh patterns; checks, leaves, flowers and fine designs. With that in mind I riffled through my copious amounts of paper and here are the papers that I thought would work.
Next I focused on the embellishments in the main kit. I noticed cute die cuts, stickers, frames, Thickers with touches of gold and little woodland creatures.
With all of that in mind I sorted through my die cuts to see if I had any that would suite the them, and lucky for me I did. I found leaves, apples, trees, cute word animals and mushrooms all which I thought would work. I added a few small envelopes for something a bit different. I also found these plastic leaves dipped with gold on the tips which I thought would work well.
I found a couple of polariod frames that complimented the colours I had picked so they got added to embellishment pile.
In the Hip Kit club kit there are cute little foxes, so i had to find a few to add to my kit.

To finish off my kit I added a few labels then Thickers in woodgrain and gold.

I really love how it all has come together although it doesn't have the homely feeling that the original kit does it is certainly an Autumn kit that I am sure I will love to use.

Now here is the Master Blog Hop List for you to follow on with the blog, from here you should be on your way to Tina's Blog:Counterfeit Kit Challenge - http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.com
