April Counterfeit Kit Club Blog Hop April Reveal

Hello lovely people, thanks for joining in on the Counterfeit Kit Blog Hop this month. Hopefully you found your way here from Tina's Blog, don't worry if you didn't, I will post the Master List for the Blog Hop at the bottom of this post, that way you can jump along with us and see the beautiful kits that the Master Forgers have put together along with the lovely kit by our guest Helen DeRam. She has done such a wonderful job putting her kit together, make sure you check it out.

The kit that was chosen this month for our inspiration was the "Follow Your Bliss" kit from Papers and Beyond.

Isn't a beauty? Jammed pack with bright bold colours, when Tina picked the kit this months she said "When I took a closer look at the Follow Your Bliss kit, I knew it was the right one for us this Easter month. A mix of funky Vicky Boutin and pretty Jen Hadfield, this American Crafts kit felt like a splash of spring with a lot of potential for gorgeous kits with possible forgeries sprinkled right in there! I hope you like it as much as I do."  What do you think? Is it the right one for April? I love it.

Right so let me get into it and break down my thought process of how I put my kit together from my stash of scrapping supplies (I really haven't bought anything new for so long but my stash is NOT GOING DOWN!!)

Papers

So when I was looking at the kit the first thing I noticed about it was the bright bold colours, with the pop of blue and yellow (which are in the main kit photo but not in the individual paper photos, so I am assuming they might be cardstock?) anyhoo, I was mainly inspired by the A side of the papers so I just ran with them (the photo of the left below). It thought to myself mainly primary colours with touches of secondary colours..... so I started looking for papers with mainly reds, blues and yellows with accents of pink, green, orange.

I then checked out the images and patterns and saw colourful flowers, feathers, birds, butterflies, black and white flowers and a touch of dark brown woodgrain. There was one paper on the B sides that really jumped out to me and that was the glass ring paper so I will have a go at recreating that for the Forgeries on the Fourth
Here are how my papers for the kit turned out:

I substituted the black and white flower wreath paper with some simple black and white patterned papers, I added some dark brown woodgrain to replicate the touch of brown in the cut-a-part sheet, I have bird, butterfly and feather patterns. I have picked papers just for the colour and added a cut-a-part just to add bulk. When I look at what I have it doesn't really remind me the original kit, but I am excited to get in and use it.

Embellishments

The Follow Your Bliss kit has some lovely embellishments in it; diecuts, label stickers, wooden flairs/button things and small stickers. I thought that I it would be easy drawing inspiration from them....

But I was a bit all over the place looking for my embellishments thinking of feathers, birds, flowers and bold colours. I didn't really find much at all so I went back to the original kit photo and looked a bit harder at the little embellishments and an "everyday/normal day" type of them with them so thought about that when rifling in my tubs of embellishments. I haven't added as many embellishments to my kit as I usually do each month but I figure if I have less I will just have to use them all and not have any left at the end of the month!! I need to busy my stash!

While searching my supplies I found a container with half cut our feathers, I think I remember saving these from some wrapping paper that the girls received about 5 years ago, so I have added them to my kit. They are a bit curled up from being saved for so long, but a heavy book or low iron will help to straighten them up.

Alphas

In the Follow Your Bliss kit there is a packet of Thickers and then the black diecut phrases for layout titles, I couldn't quite work out if the Thickers in the original kit were soft peach colour or a woodgrain.

I decided that I would go with wood grain as I have woodgrain in my papers. :) I also added the black Thickers to substitute for the black diecut phrases and at the last minute I found the black diecut words which was the final touch to my kit.

Here is my kit all together so that you can see it in all it's glory. Actually that is what I am going to call this kit....

Glory

I really love how it has all come together and I can't wait to get in and use it. I hope that I have given you some food for thought on how to look at your supplies and draw inspiration to pull your very own kit, which doesn't have to look anything like the original kit at all. It is just a base to start off your inspiration.

Make sure you pop back in for all the rest of the fun we will have this month; Forgery on the Fourth, Two Monthly Challenges and heaps more.

Take care

Wonderful kit. I love the feather papers you have. The simple stories addition with the birds is fun too. I have some of that paper still and I didn't even think of it!
