Hello everyone, today I am sharing another layout created with the gorgeous Silent Night Collection from 3Quarter Designs.
I have to say, the pink and white striped paper would have to be one of my favourites from this collection. There is something about those soft pink and white stripes mixed with the burgundy, cream and touches of green that reminds me of candy canes, peppermint sweets and old-fashioned Christmas treats. As soon as I started putting this layout together, I knew it was going to be perfect for this fun photo of the girls with the giant candy cane.
I really wanted the photo to remain the main focus of the page, so I built the design around it using some of the wonderful Christmas elements from the collection. The large Christmas tree was perfect tucked into the bottom left beside the photo, while the beautiful floral border running down the opposite side helps frame the photo and draw your eye towards it.
The hanging Christmas bulbs were far too gorgeous to cover up, so I added a floral cluster over the top and allowed the bulbs to hang down underneath. The rich burgundy roses help bring some of the deeper colours from the rest of the page into this corner while still allowing those beautiful bulbs to be a feature.
For my title, I used the quote “Cherish the little moments because they become Christmas memories.” I cut the quote into two strips and layered them across the bottom of the photo and Christmas tree. I thought the words were particularly fitting for this photo and I love that the title becomes part of the design rather than needing a large separate title elsewhere on the page.
The Christmas tree was such a lovely feature on its own that I didn’t want to cover too much of it. I added just a few little details around the base, including the presents, and allowed it to become part of the cluster surrounding my photo.
I also had a bit of fun playing with the acetate pieces from the collection. In the bottom right corner I layered the coloured nutcracker over the acetate nutcracker, offsetting the acetate slightly so that it almost looks like his shadow. I did the same with the candy cane, and I love the effect it created.
It is such a simple way to use the acetate, but it adds another layer of interest and dimension without making the cluster bulky. I kept building this little corner with some flowers, pinecones and smaller elements, then added the “Fa la la la la la” strip across the front to help ground everything and connect the cluster back towards the centre of the layout.
I really enjoyed treating each of the clusters on this page almost like its own little piece of artwork. The Christmas tree and title form one feature area, the bulbs and flowers create another, and the nutcracker and candy cane make up the third. Keeping those three areas connected through the colours and repeated Christmas elements helped balance everything around the photo.
I think what I enjoyed most about creating this layout was the colour palette. The pink and white stripes, deep burgundy roses, snowy greens and soft creams give Silent Night such a different Christmas feel. They worked perfectly with the giant candy cane in my photo and gave me plenty of opportunities to repeat those colours throughout the page. I love how this one came together. It is fun and Christmassy, a little bit sweet and candy-inspired, and most importantly it showcases one of those silly little family moments that make the best Christmas memories.
